Yes, I play games, but that is not all I am looking at. Have you ever wondered who came up with the idea for that story line? Who pitched the idea to start your favorite gaming company? What developers helped create the genius that we see on our screens? because I do. Attending #LVPASW gives me a chance to do just that! I get to witness ideas being thrown back and forth. Teams of developers, designers, creators, and students working together to create the next up and coming startups.

Last year at Lehigh Valley Hackathon an event to create up and coming apps, I witnessed the growth and development of a startup company called MenuGenie. Menu Genie lets us order online and search our local restaurants for free, and  sends, confirms, and monitors, our delivery to make sure we got our food exactly the way we ordered it.I saw it happen! Now imagine: your favorite YouTuber gets famous, and you start claiming to your friends that you watched his channel before he got famous, so you are a true fan, its the same concept, you were part of something from the start.

I like to be at the edge of technology and progress, knowing about things before everyone else. I mean don’t you just love knowing what games are being released ahead of time? Yeah I thought so, me too! So next time you are wondering what kind of events you should start going to, make startup weekends and hackathons part of your learning experience!

Stay tuned to my blog and twitter feed for updates on the happenings at #LVPASW !

Ever wondered what it takes to be an entrepreneur? The professional and personal challenges, the high and lows, the failures and the success? Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 400 past events in 100 countries around the world in 2011.The non-profit organization is headquartered in Seattle, Washington but Startup Weekend organizers and facilitators can be found in over 200 cities around the world. From Mongolia to South Africa to London to Brazil, people around the globe are coming together for weekend long workshops to pitch ideas, form teams, and start companies. All Startup Weekend events follow the same basic model: anyone is welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers. Teams organically form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) and then it’s a 54 hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation. The weekends culminate with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders with another opportunity for critical feedback.

Whether entrepreneurs found companies, find a cofounder, meet someone new, or learn a skill far outside their usual 9-to-5, everyone is guaranteed to leave the event better prepared to navigate the chaotic but fun world of startups.
