Beauty and the Beast

Fairy tales have been a part of my life as long as I can remember, but I only ever felt a connection to Belle because she liked to read books like me. Yesterday, I found myself in France, not particularly in the city where her story takes place, but one in which mine was coming to an end, Cherbourg. On ships, the routine is the law of the land, but once in a blue moon you find a person who is willing to walk away from it to share time with you. Julian left the ship this morning in between tears and goodbyes clutching a letter that I wrote in his hand, just hours before, however, he was smiling and holding my hand on the way to a surprise picnic he had planned for us in France. No Promises

It was one lucky afternoon that we found each other on the dance floor, and one simple question that ensured we would be at dinner a couple of days later. Strange how two people come to meet on a ship, and the benefits this enclosed space affords. Meeting someone on the ship means not being able to run away from them, seeing them around day and night, and having in theory 24 hours of every day to get to know them. So in theory to make friends on a ship you need to be good at time management. Continue reading

Ship life comes and goes but so do the people in this space. However, here you may finally understand that special moments are found in many unforeseen places or with people that you otherwise would have never met. On-board a ship is where you will have conversations that will probably never happen again, but that will leave memories that play on forever. Continue reading
